Intervention P2-58.4 “Information on responsible consumption of wines and the EU regime of protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications” of the 2023-2027 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) Strategic Plan of Greece” concerns responsible consumption of wines and the EU regime governing the production of wines with Geographical Indication Sectoral objectives for the information intervention are: a) improving the economic sustainability and competitiveness of the Union’s wine producers; b) raising consumer awareness regarding responsible wine consumption and the Union’s wine quality systems Specific goals include: a) providing information to consumers and professionals in the wine sector regarding responsible wine consumption and the risk associated with harmful alcohol consumption, emphasising harmful consumption of wines of unknown origin; b) providing consumers with information on the EU system of protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications relating to the specific quality, reputation or other characteristics of wine due to its special geographical environment or origin, or environmentally friendly agricultural practices that are implemented; c) improving the knowledge of professionals in the HORECA sector regarding the regime governing wines with geographical indications (PDO and PGI) and responsible wine consumption; d) education of wine and gastronomy professionals and consumers in EU target countries regarding the regime that governs wines with geographical indications and organic wines in relation to the specific quality, reputation or other characteristics of the wine due to its specific geographical environment or origin, or environmentally friendly agricultural practices that were implemented e) improvement of the image of EU wines with geographical indications.
